The New York TimesWord

Connections
Connections gives you a grid of words to sort into groups of four that share a common thread. Each puzzle has exactly one solution, and some words seem to fit more than one group.

How to play
- 01
Look for links
Scan the grid for words that share something in common. Categories are always more specific than things like '5-letter words', 'names' or 'verbs'.
- 02
Select four and submit
Pick four items and tap Submit to check whether they form a group.
- 03
Avoid mistakes
Wrong guesses count as mistakes, and you need to find every group before you run out.
- 04
Watch the colours
Each group has a colour that shows its difficulty, revealed as you solve it.
Good to know
- Difficulty by colour. Groups run from straightforward to tricky, usually yellow, green, blue, then purple.
- Red herrings. The game warns that some words seem to belong to more than one category.
- Shuffle helps. A Shuffle button rearranges the grid, which can make a link easier to spot.
